Days 7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16

Yeah...I've been woefully inattentive to the blog. My bad. Well, probably the most important development since the last post is that I've decided to go back to Hal Higdon's program. Am I wishy-washy? Without a doubt. But it's the right way to go. I'm not ready to do the basic NYRR plan. As it is I barely manage to train 5 days a week. I don't think I could manage 6.

What else? I've gone biking outside once and done the stationary a couple of times. I'm pretty confident that I have a good handle on the biking and running portions of the triathlon. Swimming, on the other hand...Not good. I haven't swum for exercise since 7th grade. And when I did it then I think I might have done .75 laps. Maybe. I really need to get on that since I'll have approximately 3 weeks after I get back from Dallas next weekend.

We won our last basketball game. The next one is tomorrow against a team that is also undefeated. The Barclays softball team made the playoffs! Unfortunately I think the first playoff game will be next week when I'm gone. Ah, well. Maybe there will be multiple and I'll get to play one more time. Anyway, this isn't really a sufficient catchup entry, but I'm tired and more interested in watching the end of Sex and the City. Tomorrow I'm going to try to run after the game, but I make no promises.

Day 6

Ugh. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, I didn't do my running today so am now two days behind schedule. Hopefully there will be some occasion to make them up, but I'm not making any promises. Tomorrow is the first Long Training Run. I plan on doing 13 miles. I'm sure it will be quite painful afterward since I haven't run that far in awhile.

On the bright side, I attended two barbecues this evening at which I did not consume alcohol. The whole alcohol thing is really more socially awkward than anything else. I don't mind not drinking, but explaining the whole thing over and over again gets tiring.

Day 5

I forgot to post an update to yesterday. Both softball and basketball were victories. Actually they were routs. I think we won baseball 7-2 or something like that. We won the basketball game 41-20. Then after basketball we went out to a dive bar called Dive Bar and I didn't drink. We also came up with an idea for a bar of our own! It's going to be called the Soggy Nacho. Don't be too jealous of the business idea.

Today I was supposed to run 3 miles. My team went out for drinks after work. We were probably out until 9:15 or so. Then we parted ways and I walked the 13 blocks from 50th and Broadway to the Y. If there is one thing that frustrates me about the YMCA it is the treadmill TVs. I know the fact that I'm able to complain about such a little thing means I really have nothing to complain about, but I'm gonna anyway. So, the TV control is actually in the LCD screen on the front/top of the treadmill. It's technically a touch screen, but it's probably one of the worst touch screen implementations ever because you never know where a button actually is or how hard it needs to be pressed. It's very annoying.

So after fooling around with the screens on three different treadmills, I got fed up and decided to try my hand (legs? butt?) at biking. I did 10 miles on the exercise bike. Obviously it was an exercise bike and can't be trusted to reflect actual biking conditions, but I manged to fake-bike the 10 miles in 35 minutes. Didn't seem too bad. But now tomorrow I need to try to run 6 miles.

I decided to do the NYRR Marathon Training Run on Sunday. That means Sucky Saturday and Science-y Sunday will be switched this week. Ugh. I didn't add a fun section today for Fun Friday. My computer's running out of batteries so I'll have to skip. Maybe I'll come up with something later.

Day 4

Hah. Done.

It was not easy, though. I hate getting up early in the morning. While I was running I realized I'm going to have to give some serious thought to how I'm going to train for both a marathon and a triathlon (even if it is a baby triathlon) at the same time. I think I'll have no choice but to start working out in the morning regularly. I need to get in some swimming and biking time and there just isn't enough time in the evening to bike/swim + run. Alright, have to finish getting ready for work.

Day 3

It's official: I'm behind. But never fear, I have a plan. Yes, laugh. Snicker if you must. But I'm going to get up at 6am (in approximately 6 hours) and rectify the situation. And if I'm to do that, I need to go to bed pretty much now.

I'll keep you posted on the outcome of the games. Somehow the schedules worked out so that I can play both. Softball is at 7 in the Park and will probably last a little over an hour. Basketball is at 8:50 at a gym on the Upper West Side. It'll be tight, but it seems like it was meant to be.

I also came to the conclusion that I'll probably start incorporating news pertaining to other sports. Let's face it: I'm boring and the last thing anyone wants to waste 1.5 minutes doing is reading about how I waddled my way through a 3-22 mile run. Maybe I'll even do theme days! Today wasn't really a success at all. I'm hosting an impromptu mini-barbecue/gurlz night. I'll either have to run on Friday or get up early on Thursday. Or maybe go after basketball. But at least I'm not behind at this point.

Day 1

I'm going to call Day 1 a rousing success. And by rousing, I mean I was able to plan ahead as well as not drink alcohol. I realized that my last day of boozin' went by without much fanfare. I had a Bud Light at dinner. Now, thanks to the BBQ, we have tons of beer in the fridge. Ah, well. It's up to Jeremy and guests to drink it.

Mondays are supposed to be rest days. But as I have a basketball game on Thursday and have made the better part of the last month into rest days, I thought it would be good to get a head start. I, Katie Escoto, Ultimate Procrastinator of the World, planned ahead. So now I don't have to work out after the game on Thursday. It would have been doable, but I'm not sure I would have been motivated. Plus, it would have been a late evening.
